Steam Generator Technical Specification
The TSE-compliant technical requirements a steam generator must meet, from material quality to test pressure and from safety equipment to feedwater pump specifications.
STEAM GENERATOR AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
- The steam generator must be suitable for liquid and gas firing, have a reduced water volume, be of fire/flue-tube, fully cylindrical construction, designed and manufactured in compliance with TSE and EN standards, and TSE certified. A CE certificate alone is not sufficient.
- Pressure parts must be manufactured from P265GH or P355GH boiler plate compliant with EN 10028. Non-pressure parts such as doors and smoke boxes may be made from S235JR boiler plate.
- Flue tubes must be manufactured from normalized welded boiler tube compliant with EN 10217-2 up to 6 bar operating pressure, and from seamless drawn boiler tube to EN 10216-2 for pressures of 6 bar and above.
- The manufacturer must provide material certificates.
- Steam generator design pressure must be 1.05 times the operating pressure; strength calculations must be based on this value.
- The steam generator must be tested at 1.5 times operating pressure for one hour.
- The steam generator must reach operating conditions and produce steam in a short time.
- There must be a droplet-separator at the steam outlet.
- Generator welds must be carried out by certified welders; the manufacturer must provide these certificates.
- The steam generator body must be insulated with 100 mm rock wool.
- Flanges used on the steam generator must be at least PN16 class.
- It must have an explosion door opening directly into the combustion chamber (flame tube, furnace).
- It must have at least one flame-viewing device made of fire-resistant ceramic glass.
- The steam generator must have two safety valves.
- The bottom blowdown valve must be DN40 PN16.
- All blowdown lines must connect to a single main line.
- Water level must be controlled with a level regulator and level electrodes.
- The level gauge must be of the glass type.
- The feedwater pump must be stainless and of the multi-stage type.
- Feedwater pump discharge pressure must exceed the steam generator's operating pressure.
- The feedwater pump must be able to comfortably pump water at 102°C.
- There must be two stainless check valves on the feedwater discharge line.
- Condensate tank volume must equal the steam generator's one-hour water requirement (example: a 1 t/h steam generator requires a 1,000-liter condensate tank).
- A steam boiler should be used above 3 t/h steam capacity.
- A tandem-type water softener must be used, sized to the water hardness.
- All electrical devices on the steam generator (burner, pumps, etc.) must be controlled from the boiler control panel.
- Steam and flue gas temperatures must be readable from the panel and adjustable to the desired setting.
- When steam or flue gas temperature exceeds the set value, a light and sound alarm system must activate, and this safety feature must stop the burner.
- There must be a light and sound alarm system on the panel for water level.
- The burner's fault indicator light must be visible on the control panel.
- The manufacturer is obliged to provide the operator with TSE and other quality certificates, along with the installation and layout diagram and operating instructions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does a steam generator technical specification cover?
A steam generator technical specification covers TSE-certified design and material quality (boiler plate, welding certificates), design/test pressures, safety equipment (safety valves, blowdown valves, level gauges), feedwater pump and condensate tank specifications, the water softening system, and control panel monitoring/alarm requirements. A steam boiler is recommended above 3 t/h capacity.
