Heat Exchangers
Economizer
An economizer is a type of heat exchanger, made of tubes, that transfers the sensible and latent heat of waste gas from a boiler or furnace to water or air.

What Is an Economizer?
An economizer is a type of heat exchanger, made of tubes, that transfers the sensible and latent heat of waste gas from a boiler or furnace to water or air. The temperature of waste gas leaving a boiler flue is generally 50-60°C higher than the operating temperature.
As boiler operating temperature rises, and with it the boiler's flue gas outlet temperature, the amount of energy released to the environment through the flue gas also increases.
Economizers transfer this waste heat to water circulating within them. This recovered heat can be given to the boiler feedwater, or just as readily used for heating, domestic hot water, textile washing, pool heating and similar purposes.
Heaton®-brand economizers use the waste heat energy released through the flue to raise boiler and system efficiency, reducing fuel quantity and delivering fuel savings. This feature helps conserve energy and natural resources.
Using a Heaton® economizer delivers an efficiency gain of 4% to 10% in boiler or plant efficiency, depending on the boiler's flue gas outlet temperature and fuel type.
With the resulting efficiency gain, either less fuel is consumed for the same capacity, or more heat is produced for the same amount of fuel. Adding an economizer to boilers with particularly low efficiency can bring boiler capacity and efficiency up to optimum levels.
When heat recovered from waste flue gas is given to the steam boiler feedwater, this prevents the boiler from being subjected to thermal shock, especially in processes with no condensate return, while also bringing boiler efficiency to an optimum level.
Another benefit of using an economizer in steam boilers is that the boiler operates under heavy loads without strain, adapts better to varying loads, and maintains relatively high efficiency across those varying loads.
Economizer Design
Heaton®-brand economizers are specially designed and manufactured, taking into account operating pressure, fuel type, temperature, gas cleanliness, operating conditions, layout and similar factors, from seamless drawn or stainless tube, in straight-tube, U-tube, spiral-tube, helical-tube or finned-tube form. Economizers are insulated, at the customer's request, with rock wool together with aluminum, stainless or galvanized sheet.
Condensing economizers are designed and manufactured from stainless drawn tube for corrosion resistance and long service life.
In the design of an economizer used on a steam boiler, water-side pressure drop is an important factor. Economizer design is carried out according to pressure-drop calculations.
Our modern-design economizer product is suitable for every type of boiler. Economizer prices vary according to boiler capacity, fuel type, operating pressure and the product's many technical features.
