Thermal Oil Boiler
Used in industrial processes that require high temperatures, Heaton® thermal oil boilers operate at temperatures up to 300°C and at low pressure, delivering a long service life with no risk of scaling or corrosion.

Thermal Oil Boilers are used in industrial processes requiring high temperatures. They are manufactured in two types, horizontal and vertical.
Thermal Oil Boiler Design
The most important point in thermal oil boilers is that the oil must never remain stagnant at any point. In the thermal oil boilers we manufacture, this is carefully taken into account: the boiler's heat-transfer surfaces are manufactured from imported seamless drawn boiler tube, interlocked in a spiral shape in compliance with EN 12952. A three-pass design creates the combustion chamber needed for good combustion and high efficiency, and ensures the gas velocity required at the heat-transfer surfaces.
The oil circulation speed inside the coil is calculated according to EN 12952 and TSE K 548 standards.
Its modern design delivers fuel savings.
Thermal Oil Boiler Features
- Thermal oil boilers operate at high temperature (300°C) and low pressure.
- The heat-transfer oil used in the system can be used for a long time.
- No water-conditioning unit is needed for the heat-transfer oil. Scaling and similar adverse effects do not occur in a thermal oil boiler.
- The heat-transfer oil does not cause corrosion in the thermal oil boiler or the system.
- Under normal conditions, the piping does not freeze.
- A thermal oil boiler can be used as a heating fluid to produce steam, hot water or boiling water.
Film Temperature in Thermal Oil Boilers
Correct Film Temperature
The temperature of the thin oil film that forms at high temperature on the inner walls of the thermal oil boiler coils is called the oil film temperature. If this thin oil layer exceeds the allowed temperature, it will accelerate degradation of the thermal oil and, in turn, damage the inner surface of the tube, shortening the boiler's service life.
Our R&D engineers check this temperature with computer-aided calculations before every manufacturing run.
This is how Heaton® thermal oil boilers are used safely in industrial facilities.
Materials Used in Thermal Oil Boilers
Body plates
EN 10028 P355GH grade special boiler plate.
Boiler tubes
European-origin seamless drawn special boiler tube, certified to EN 10216-2, DIN 17715 and DIN 2448 standards.
Flanges
EN 10028 P265 GH PN40 welding-neck flanges.
Insulation
100 mm thick rock wool at 120 kg/m3 density, covered with 1 mm galvanized or aluminum corrugated sheet.
Excellent Combustion Chamber (Furnace)
A special combustion chamber is designed to burn fuels of varying chemical composition, from different geographies and production sources, and to achieve maximum heat transfer. Suitable for burning fuel oil, diesel and natural gas.
Special manufacturing using modern welding technologies guarantees thermal-expansion capability, service life and operating safety.
Thermal Oil Boilers and Safety Equipment
- Thermal oil outlet and return temperatures are set to the desired value via PLC control.
- Thermal oil outlet and return temperatures can be read and set from the touchscreen using digital thermostats.
- Thermal oil outlet temperature, flue gas temperature, and oil level and flow control devices digitally control the burner.
- Digital flue gas safety thermostat
- Oil flow control device (flow switch)
- Operating and safety pressure switches
- A mechanical safety valve on the thermal oil outlet header relieves excess pressure in the event of a sudden pressure rise in the boiler or system.
- A mechanical control on the expansion tank monitors the expansion tank oil level.
- Special automation software provides full control during operation and downtime.
- The touchscreen automated control panel enables remote access and communication.
From the touchscreen, the burner, thermal oil circulation pumps, oil filling pump, oil inlet and outlet temperatures, flue gas outlet temperature, oil flow, and expansion tank level control can all be monitored, with adjustments made as the facility requires.
Frequently Asked Questions
What temperature does a thermal oil boiler operate at?
Thermal oil boilers operate at high temperature, up to 300°C, and at low pressure.
Does a thermal oil boiler suffer from scaling and corrosion?
No. No water-conditioning unit is needed for the heat-transfer oil; scaling and similar adverse effects do not occur in a thermal oil boiler, and the heat-transfer oil does not cause corrosion in the system. Under normal conditions, the piping does not freeze either.
What types is a thermal oil boiler manufactured in?
It is manufactured in two types: horizontal and vertical.
What standards is a thermal oil boiler manufactured to?
The boiler's heat-transfer surfaces are manufactured from imported seamless drawn boiler tube, interlocked in a spiral shape in compliance with EN 12952. The oil circulation speed inside the coil is calculated according to EN 12952 and TSE K 548 standards.
Can steam be produced with a thermal oil boiler?
Yes. A thermal oil boiler can be used as a heating fluid to produce steam, hot water and boiling water.
